How to Book Torrey Pines South (Without Living in San Diego)

Updated for the 2026 season

I don't live in San Diego, so I don't book Torrey Pines South nearly as often as I'd like — but every time I've helped a friend plan a trip there, the same confusion comes up: the city built this system to protect its own residents first, and nobody explains that clearly until you're already locked out of the window you assumed you had.

Two different booking windows, same tee sheet

San Diego residents with a City Resident Card can reserve up to 90 days in advance, and new times release online nightly at 7:00 PM Pacific for the date exactly 7 days out. If you want a specific Saturday, residents need to be online and booking at 7:00 PM the Saturday before.

Non-residents don't get that early window at all — course policy reserves less than 20% of total tee times for non-residents, released separately, inside a much shorter 8-day advance window.

The rule most visitors miss: the 3-day release

Here's the part that actually matters if you're traveling in from out of state: any resident-reserved tee times that go unfilled get released back into the non-resident pool 3 days before the date of play. A huge share of the best South Course times visitors end up getting aren't from the original non-resident window at all — they're resident slots nobody claimed, dumped back into availability 72 hours out.

What it costs

Torrey Pines charges a non-refundable advance reservation fee at the time of booking — around $50 per player for non-residents, $32 per player for residents — on top of the green fee itself.

If you strike out in the official non-resident window, don't give up on the trip yet — that 3-day release is a completely separate pool of availability on a predictable schedule, and it's the one most out-of-town golfers never think to check.

Watching a 3-day window by hand for a week is miserable

TeeSignal watches Torrey Pines South around the clock — including the resident-release window — and texts you the moment a time matching your dates opens up.
